Ramen/Ramyun can be tasty; like I would expect it to be like on my favorite Korean Dramas

As a small introduction to myself:

I love to watch Korean Dramas and if you’ve watched a K-Drama, you know what I mean when I say that, a simple bag of chips or popcorn just won’t do… as just thinking about watching a K-Drama makes you REALLY crave Ramen/Ramyun. But… when you eat it, it just doesn’t taste quite as wonderful as they make it look on the K-Dramas. They slurp it up; somehow without getting it everywhere (not me) and they add everything under the moon to it (Like on Flowerboy Ramyun Shop) as if it were Bibendum worthy of 3 stars. Unfortunately, I crave ramen every day.. and ramen isn’t as healthy to eat everyday but; unlike kimchi, but people don’t complain about the smell of ramen (like my family). I’ll talk more about kimchi (my pseudo addiction) at a later time.

Learning by trial and error, I started by getting the the noodles how I wanted them. Then, I worked on getting the broth to my liking. I cooked spinach at variable times to find that it only needs to be added just after you take the soup off of the stove.  Kale needs to cook for 3 minutes (I love greens). Here are my tried and true recipes for ramen and here are some tricks that I’ve learned.

  • Use quality water. If you don’t like the taste of your tap water, don’t use it in your broth. It won’t hide the flavor.
  • If you’re adding other ingredients, estimate if it requires being cooked before, during or after the noodles are cooked. Noodle bloat if you don’t time it just right.
  • Don’t crush the noodles because it makes the water more starchy where more of the noodle surface touches the water. So, don’t break the bricks unless you want to keep yours in the same water or make it sweet.
  • Cook the noodles for no less or more than 3 minutes unless you like them mushy or bloated.
  • Put cooked noodles in ice cold water to stop the cooking and bloating. Keep in mind that it really only buys you a few more minutes to catch up other ingredients and to find a place to devour your ramen.
  • Dump the water you cook the noodles in to achieve a simple and gentle flavor (as possible), to avoid cloudy water and to bring out the irresistible noodle flavor.
  • Use fresh quality ingredients to add to your ramen and don’t be afraid to add fresh ingredients like sprouts at the end…to cooked ingredients like meat or 2nd day leftover ingredients.

the indescriminate cook. Tips to cook ramen. Including recipes for Tummy Ramen, Corny Chicken Ramen and Spring Onion Ramen.
Yummy Broth or “Tummy Broth”:

I cook the noodles for exactly 3 minutes, pour out the water (I used filtered water for best flavor) and put the noodles into a bowl of 1 cup ice cold water to stop the noodles from cooking or bloating. Stir the noodles to ensure even cooling. Start new water in the same pan with the correct amount of water per directions. Remove the water from the heat source once it has boiled, add the flavor packet and stir till dissolved. Drain the water from the bowl of noodles. Pour the broth over the noodles and stop if you get gritty flavor bits at the bottom of the pan (ignore if your brand has no grit). Then, stir to level out the hot and cold temperatures in the soup. I love the clean flavor, the clear broth and I find it easy on the stomach when you have a belly ache or when I get a craving late in the evening. Add more water if you need it more bland but taste it as you go, you don’t want to dilute it too much.

Spring Onion Sesame Ramen:

Cook the noodles for exactly 3 minutes, pour out the water and put them into a bowl with 1 cup of ice cold water to stop them from cooking or bloating. Start new water in the pan with the proper amount of water per directions and put in spring onions or green onions (1-2) before or after the boil as you prefer. I put in the white part before the boil and the green part at the end. Fresh crisp onions is SO important for the right flavor; otherwise they end up with a slight aftertaste or even a fishy taste. After the water cooks the onions enough to smell aromatic in the boiling water or a minute, remove the pan from the heat, add the flavor packet and stir till dissolved. I stop pouring the broth over the noodles when I get to the gritty flavor bits at the bottom of the pan. Then I put in premium dark (toasted) sesame oil. A good dark or premium sesame oil makes all the difference. Start with 2 drops to find your favorite flavor level. Light sesame oils take too much to flavor the broth and don’t lend much to the flavor in my opinion so I don’t use it in my ramen. I like 3-5 drops of premium sesame oil, depending on each bottle as they can vary from batch to batch. I like Lee Kum Kee, Dynasty or Trader Joes but I have a favorite that I buy in the Asian Market.

Corny Chicken Ramen:

A true go to and a wonderfully addictive – less healthy option….Which are always my favorite options when I’m craving. Chicken ramen seems to be the only flavor to marry well with the corn but with this ramen: we are throwing carbohydrates and starches to the side so no need to pour out the water for this recipe as it will only help to sweeten it even more. Again, we do not want to overcook the noodles so that we can enjoy the full yummy flavor of the ramen. Start with half a can of whole kernel sweet corn (Libby’s is the sweetest corn available to me), including half of the water from the can or more (yes, this is essential for the flavor) and put in the amount of water listed on the label less the amount of water that you just poured in from the can. When it comes to a boil, let the corn cook into the water for a minute on a medium boil then; scoop out enough corn to your bowl that you will be able to add the brick then; add the noodle brick into the water and set the timer for 3 minutes. While the ramen is cooking, ladle out (or pour) some water into a little bowl and dissolve the flavor packet until it no longer is dissolved. When the 3 minutes is up, remove the pan from the heat and add the broth, being careful not to add any of the gritty flavor bits (if any) and pour the soup in over the corn from your bowl. I hope that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Let me note that: My favorite ramen is, Instant Oriental Noodle Soup Chinese Herb Angelica Flavor  by Ve Wong. Here is the best link I could find: http://www.amazon.com/Ve-Wong-Instant-Oriental-Chinese/dp/B00IZ19ZX4/ref=sr_1_9?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1422443654&sr=1-9

here is a second link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Ve-Wong-Instant-Oriental-Noodle-Soup-Chinese-Herb-Flavor-12-Ounce-/361240576045

Try it if you get the chance, it is such a different flavor from the usual ramen.

But I do have to say that… if I’d have to admit what brand my all time favorite ramen choices would be: Hands down  Nongshim. You’ll find them here: http://www.nongshimusa.com/our-products/meal-noodle
…and the newest ramen is called: Jinjja Jinjja (which translates to “really really”) Flamin’ Hot & Nutty Noodle Soup. Found here: http://www.nongshimusa.com/our-products/meal-noodle/jinjja-jinjja

My runner up brand is: Indo Mie brand Mi Goreng Instant Noodles. Found here: http://www.indomie.com/
Love it.  There are many fabulous brands but most are not what we typically find on American Grocery store shelves. I travel out of my way to get the best noodles, the best Kimchi and the best premium soy sauce. 🙂

the indescriminate cook. Mankind is not color blind but beautiful
We can clone animals, watch television from the palm of our hands and visit the moon. We boast discoveries of unfathomable insight. Yet; we lack the greatest ignorance of our very own: Mankind. Still, we continue to choose ignorance over mercy, peace, brotherhood and understanding. How have we allowed such knowledge to escape us for this long. We are still ignorant and/or blind to our differences. We have allowed walls to erect by; allowing differences of language, religion, region, gender, economy, race, and politics to divide us.

We are either in fear of faltering to racial inferiority or we do not understand that we are of the same Father…the same race: the Human Race. We are color blind, instead of embracing our differences. We cannot hide behind insecurities. We must look at our many differences…our AMAZING differences with: eyes wide open in order to…

Is chaos is the constant for monetary security in our biggest and most deceiving industries. No More, Fools!

Is chaos is the constant for monetary security in our biggest and most deceiving industries. We fall for Hollywood telling us that we can’t have a good time without sex, alcohol nor drugs and we stopped being happy. We fall for Pharma telling us that we can’t live without drugs but we die from the affects of these so-called-medicines. We fall for politicians putting dangerous and non-necessary chemicals in our food and pay them to do it. Are we making them rich so they can send us to an early grave…so we can’t enjoy our own God-given lives. When did we stop controlling our own happiness and give up control of our lives to those people who are only looking out for themselves? When crises divert our attention from the issues at hand, when did we stop paying attention?

I just happened to be looking up some ingredients that I saw on the back of a bottle and wondered what sunflower lecithin was. When I looked it up and found intelligent life and knowledgeable people commenting on the page. It is https://thedoctorweighsin.com/lecithin-supplements-risks-benefits/. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s kind of like; when you feel like giving up on society and then, someone always seems to come to the rescue; thus re-validating your faith in society. Yeah, it was kind of like that.

They were all in agreeance! Imagine that.? They agreed with the injustice of pharmaceutical/medical and the political gain. There, they talked about the greedy industries taking advantage of the people for monetary gain versus keeping dangerous chemicals out of our diets. Harming vs helping.

I should start with: I can generally tell if I have a good doctor when they agree with me when asking for no pain meds, no unnecessary antibiotics… and when I tell them that I’d rather try Oreganolp73 first; they understand. Well, keeping solid people in my life includes keeping solid doctors and solid friends whenever possible. People who do not ask me to compromise with my ideals or with my health. I felt like I was with friends yet I did not comment. I just felt…not alone.

Well, we all know that living with no sugar, no alcohol and no recreational drugs can help the body consistently adapt to these hazardous ingredients in our life (food and surroundings) to a degree but, do we want to believe that any of those three will definitely allow any of the bio-food-hazards or product-hazards to break down the body’s immune system quickly, harming our health and our lifespan? But as it is; any of those three (sugar/alcohol/drugs) will throw your brain and body in chaos ridiculously fast.

I am not saying that I don’t occasionally eat ice cream or sweet things but I definitely know that it can have a long term (or short term) consequences and doing without it is definitely better but it should be my decision. I can’t watch TV without wanting to eat poorly. It’s everywhere: In the shows, the commercials and I’ve even noticed ads within the show on billboards, in the background etc. I think I make an educated decision when I eat unhealthy foods or I know what I’m eating…but do I? Do we really know what’s in our foods?

The sad thing, is that if people enjoy it; they (as a society) will fight tooth and nail to hide under the covers that pharmaceutical/medical industries and the Politicians have put into place for them. Oh, and of course the television industry too. Just like the ingredients in our food. Something that seems so simple is not always.. a simple ingredient. The GMOs, the soil and the root stimulators all alter and modify each and every singular ingredient. Like Alchemy; it is altered. Adding that our body’s ability to combat these hazardous ingredients, requires less of the body altering stimuli that allow the poisons to attack our unguarded immune systems. Less sugar, alcohol and less drugs. It’s a vicious circle that we’ve come accustomed to.

I learned a long time ago (thankfully) that having a good time does not require me doing what the television industry has told me; is a good time. And as I’ve gotten older; it irks me at just how much it has affected the younger generation both physically and emotionally.

The entertainment industry definitely plays a large role in our health as well… with their commercials, in-movie royalties for product endorsements such as showing people only having a good time while drinking, smoking and taking prescriptive drugs as if it should be common place; even specific foods, brands (like pizza companies) or deserts. Yes, society has played right into their hands. If we had no television, would we be as unhealthy as we are now? Maybe, maybe not. Brand names may be blurred out on some items but the united industries still play a part such as the tobacco industry, the alcohol industry, drug industry and the food industry.

It ensures that our children are just not happy eating healthy, living healthy or happy being happy if they portray unhappiness with a situation or social situation, it outlines what is to be or not be happy about. They can’t wait to drink when they get older and they think that taking medication or recreational drugs is not a big deal.

Not to get started on the rest of the industry that affects their mental health…I won’t get started on that at the moment. Although, It is seemingly just a product endorsement. Yet at the same time, it is showing the world an unhealthy lifestyle that they essentially and eventually will adapt it into their lives. Just like many people think that Hollywood has no accent (since we’ve come accustomed to it), they also think that Hollywood is the norm for our lives in multiple aspects to include emotional health and chemical adaptive health. That part of Hollywood is not real…or at least it wasn’t.

It is just a vicious circle. It is all about the pharmaceutical/medical industry (aka: MONEY), political industry (aka: MONEY) and the entertainment industry (aka: More MONEY). What was it money can’t buy? Bingo. No…happiness. (LOL)

Again, I would like to say that seeing the article was somewhat of a relief and it was nice to see like-minded people who are aware of and who are voicing their aversion of the money controlling industries who are running (ruining) the world: Both yours and my world. And we are letting them do it!

Let’s all do our part. Be aware and watch what our children are watching, who they are friends with and… spend time with your kids so that they learn from you. Buy local from farmers markets when possible and organic if you can. Good healthy exercise is a must and take them on outings for good old vitamin D with lots of fresh air before they take that away too.

Smile (anyway), it’ll help you live longer. 🙂

Mia got a bath.

Before we could rinse her off…she had other ideas.

We called and called for her but we could not find our little white dog. We finally noticed a flash of white tail wagging 2′ away from us. When she turned around, we saw a happy Mia…

We couldn’t believe it…she was there the entire time. We had to wash her all over again.

Win win for Mia!!!

She certainly loves her baths…and my  little stinker sure knows how to get what she wants. ♥

Wholey Guacamole :P

This is a top Guacamole Recipe on Allrecipes.com. One of my favorite sites: As of today, this recipe has all 5 stars with almost 4000 reviews.

It’s so close to my Mom’s recipe. She uses red onions & always adds black pepper at the end. Both recipes rock. “Add a pinch at the end and fold it in”. Don’t over mix. Black pepper separates flavors on the tongue so; add pepper sparsely. That way it gives your mouth a little surprise flavor in every bite. A very light dusting of white pepper can be used but do not stir…a few folds should be ok.

Childhood is way too short

from Gmas phone 238

Right or wrong? I believe in equality however; I can understand why people don’t like the recent promotion of sexual orientation in the media. It is because of our children, who of coarse; are watching it all.

First of all: Kids should be kids for as long as possible; without tainting their idea of life before they are ready to understand it all for themselves. It is up to us to differentiate the difference. I see the importance of acceptance and everyone is equal in my eyes but; I really do wish that we could keep the promotion part amongst the adults and out of the minds of our children. Life 101 not 1,0001.

A person’s sexual orientation is their business and it should not be of anyone else’s opinion. But; for people flaunting and promoting “gay pride”; it has certainly shown us that we have gone just a little too far. It is not what we want our children to contemplate nor misconstrue. Heck, I don’t want to hear about it myself as I turn on the TV, log onto Facebook or stroll through the videos on Youtube. Sex is an intimate secret that two adults share between themselves and LGBTIQ marriage can be battled without promotional ads etc. It shouldn’t be on the top shelf for children to see. It’s bad enough that we have succumbed to sexual temptation in advertisements and promotions..In which I wish we could stop as well.

When our children turn on the TV today, they see rainbow promotions, gay pride, homosexual commercials and the news. Hello!!!!…Why??!! We parents can’t lock it out like Pay-per-view (PPV) but; we sure wish we could…

Children do not even need to be aware of SEX!!! Unfortunately, some people are not thinking of the kids or they just really don’t care. But a lot of us do care and at times we wish that we could de-select the outside influences the same way that we de-select channels for cable TV. But we can’t.

What do you think? By promoting gay pride, are our children being over-exposed to sexual concepts, over-exposed to sexual imagery and has the media committed offense by over-promoting sexual orientation with serious disregard and exploitation of our children? Can’t we be a little less obvious for their sake? They are exposing children to a new way of thinking: More like opportunities for sexual activities with same sex; as well as an obvious sexual awareness before they are armed with the proper knowledge or balance in life. Let children be children; without us fighting battles in the public eye. Young public eyes. It’s sexual Education at it’s worst.

My granddaughter’s friends spent the night and they were discussing whether or not they will be homosexual or heterosexual and how weird it will be now that some of their friends may be gay or lesbian. Wow, that was just way to much to ingest in that moment. So, I quickly changed the subject with a quick offering of an ice cream sundae. This is what we are teaching our children. These girls still order off of the children’s menu for goodness sake and yet they are seriously seeing this as an opportunity and making decisions about their future already??

Again, I understand the reason for this fight but… What I don’t understand is the people who are pushing it way too far… Who aren’t actually wanting to fight for rights and yet they can’t see what they are doing to the children. I am sure for the most part people are fighting for the right reasons but because of the large scale battle; some of this has really gone out of bounds.

It is pretty scary though to see the influence on children when you go onto Facebook, twitter, tumbler…and any other social media where you see children posting their pics in rainbow colors … to promote LGBT. Really not what we need to accomplish here folks. Do we really want this kind of awareness for our CHILDREN?!

And yes, there’s more: Go to the sticker store on Facebook and the first thing that you see is “pride”. And I’’ve seen my granddaughter’s friends using these very stickers.

I have always explained things to my kids and grandkid and I’ve always taught them that because of the choices that we make; does not make us any different from each other…just unique. No one is worse and no one is better. We are all different and acceptance, is understanding that. It is not up to us to make choices for other people. It is up to us to make choices for ourselves.

I’m so ready for the media to settle down about the issues and let people be who they are without discrimination and without control. Good for everyone. Initially that is what all LGBTIQH (humans) want. So, let’s just make sure that we all don’t lose sight of our values and loose grip of the stability in the lives of all people. In other words: Building new walls should only reinforce old ones.

We Women Must Love Ourselves First, Then Others Will Love Us Back

04.29.2015 from Gmas iPhone 072

Women fall in love and expect to be loved unconditionally. We expect that someone will love us so much that we will love ourselves more because of it. But, what if we don’t. We either expect way too much or not expect anything at all. What if we get taken for granted and treated like we are less than worthy? Why do we count on others to divvy out our self worth? You are the only you that you have. Isn’t that special enough?

We do not grow up in a society that supports or believes women to be strong, determined, faithful and trustworthy. We see it on TV, we see it on shows, we see it on billboards and we see people preaching that women are strong. Are we? Not if we expect others to make us feel strong. This is what makes us women. Why? Because this is what we are taught. This is how we are raised. Unfortunately, television promotions is not our real world. Also, geographical locations differ from one location to another as to how women are treated or …here’s the word…ACCEPTED.

Some women are lucky in love but some who are not lucky in love; slowly find, that their relationship can break down as we are surrounded with men who break us down; even complete strangers. It can be through words, actions, sighs or even looks. Not so subtle for us women. We all know and we all have felt, seen, heard and have been victimized for it. We are women.

Eventually if we stay in an imbalanced relationship, all things wrong is your fault and we are slowly dehumanized. Eventually, we give up; unknowingly, to find ourselves slowly stripped of our own self worth. With little self worth left; we no longer have the strength and break down to any and all criticism as if we are deserve it. Why? Because we are women. We feel and we want and we need; openly. It is our inner and outer beauty.

Sadly, we can lose trust in all males and sometimes; it is carried through to our sons. These sons can pass on the same prejudice against women because his mother succumbed to the devaluation and surrendered her own self worth. Her son can regret or be angered that he was robbed of his Mom, the strong Mother that he needed. His “whole Mom”, that shows him right from wrong and shows him how to truly love a woman; which will ensure him a happy relationship and a true understanding of love.

Motherhood is so important as a woman and strength is vital in raising children to have self worth.

Little girls really need us as an example to be strong in order for them to learn to be strong themselves. We are the examples for our children. They learn through us. If we are not strong, then our children learn from the bottom rather than learn through us in order to become even stronger and better than we are…More able to take on the world. And why do we have to be strong? Why can’t we just be accepted. Well, that is the world today. The men who seemingly are, obviously don’t know how to make a woman happy. Some men are true pillars in this world of injustice and should not be treated as if they are simpletons. These men are our inspiration and our hope. Is it still a “man’s world”? Not really. Are men really happy when their ladies are unhappy? Someone sneered to me about those words: “make a woman happy”. He said: Why do I have to “make” a woman happy. Why can’t I just be “nice” to her? I laughed (accidentally) and said “because, you have to LOooooVE her.” I let that soak in then, I elaborated: “In all relationships, you have to take care of each other. You never have to worry about yourself if she’s got your back. She never has to worry if you’ve got her back. Isn’t it nice when someone always puts you first? It must go both ways. Otherwise, it’s like paddling with one oar…and who likes fishing alone?” Yeah, I left him with that last word to ponder.

Regrets happen and not every marriage can last but we can be happy when we love ourselves. We can change the world; starting with one person … ourselves. We are perfectly imperfect, just the way God made us to be. What a boring world it would be if we were all the same. Like all one color crayon, one style of clothing…and we all know that women would NOT like that. We are creative, we are colorful and we are beautiful … when we let ourselves be happy. We are who we are and nothing will ever change that. If we don’t like who we are, we can learn to love ourselves all over again. That, is how we change the world. That, is how we find our strength. If you are lucky enough to be surrounded by one man that can appreciate our strengths, then, that is all we need from our relationship because: we will always have ourselves to love and to rely on.

We can’t run from ourselves no matter how fast we run. We are a powerhouse that can be intimidating and yes, we are different. We are determined, strong and faithful. If that scares off men; then find a real man who loves all of you or enjoy; just being you. If we can change for anyone; we can change for ourselves to make ourselves happy. If you have to change who you are for a man; then who are you? A healthy relationship consists of two whole people; not two halves.
Be happy today and tell yourself that you can be sad tomorrow. When tomorrow comes, it will then be today…which means that we no longer have to be sad. Smile and watch people’s curiosity spark. Let them know that things are different, things are real and you are unique. You are you. Take it or leave it; you don’t need it unless you love it. My brother advised me that. ” there is love and there is lust. The two cannot go together and only love can stand alone. Patience is for the worthy.”
One day when I was down and feeling like a nobody, I looked into the mirror and told myself, “today, it is all about ME .” I talked to myself (and responded) while driving by myself. I told myself how pretty the fields were, the birds were and complained about the crazy drivers then; I zestfully agreed with myself. I took myself out to eat and even watched a movie all by myself. I wrote myself a note to read when I woke up, “I had a fabulous time today, let’s do this again.” I did that three weekends in a row and I really, I mean really liked myself. I got to remember who I was and how much fun I was.
After a couple of weekends, people noticed how happy I was and my confidence became such a huge magnet. Guys were coming up to me and telling me that I was, “amazing”, “I rocked”, and “I really knew where it was at.” The latter was my favorite and I will never forget his face. Men noticed me and I had my pick of men. It felt good and I enjoyed just being single. Why? Because, I didn’t need someone to make me feel special. I really felt like a celebrity but mostly with myself. We are all celebrities waiting to come out. We may not have paparazzi but we have ourselves, always: True selves that we can always count on.
So starting today: Say hello to yourself, talk to yourself (you can even respond to yourself in the mirror … don’t be shy), say good morning and good night to yourself in the mirror every day. You can even send yourself an e-card and joke about it to your friends. Maybe you could rub off on them. Do something for yourself today and smile because you have a pretty execeptional, trustworthy and rockin’ friend with you always: YOURSELF! Notice YOURSELF! Just think about it: If you had yourself for a friend; it would be pretty cool, huh?
